Hi Munchworms!
Today is the day of a first. A big, giant, huge first. You all know that I love my fantasy, YA, contemporary, romance and whatnot. Poetry? Never been my cup of tea! At all!
And then the blogging community came along, getting all enthusiastic about Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur. Intriguing me. Calling out to me. Begging me to give it a shot.
Then came the day that it passed by me when I was scrolling on BookDepository. I read it and.. I simply had to share it with you all.
Milk and Honey is a collection of poetry and prose about survival. About the experience of violence, abuse, love, loss, and femininity.
The book is divided into four chapters, and each chapter serves a different purpose. Deals with a different pain. Heals a different heartache. Milk and Honey takes readers through a journey of the most bitter moments in life and finds sweetness in them because there is sweetness everywhere if you are just willing to look.
The first chapter of this book had my crying, aching. hurting.
It’s the chapter that hit me hardest because of its relatability, even though Rupi Kaur did not try to achieve that. She did anyway.
The second chapter of this book reminded me of precious moments I’ve shared during my existence, moments in which I felt loved, in which I loved and which I’ll always cherish.
The third chapter made me think of things I never really thought of before. Made me contemplate them in a way I wouldn’t normally do. Enlightened me.
The fourth chapter showed me that there’s strength in each and every one of us but that we simply have to find it, believe in it. Believe in ourselves.
This book changed me.
And I’m grateful.
I paid full-price for this book. All opinions are entirely my own. I’m not being compensated for my review in any way.
I’m getting this book for Christmas! I’m usually not a fan of poetry but I’ve relented and given in to the massive hype. I’m so glad you liked it, I hope it affects me the same way it affected you 🙂

It is! Some poems really took some time to sink in before I could read on and I guess that’s what poetry is supposed to do anyway. 🙂

This was an amazing review, Kathy! Now you need to read Rupi Kaur’s new collection: The Sun and Her Flowers.

Definitely planning on getting my hands on that one as well. Although it might have to wait until 2018. 🙂

Yup, same! Haven’t seen any reviews on it yet but reviews on poetry is hard enough as it is.. It’s all about how you can relate to it anyway.. :’)

Exactly. You can’t always trust reviews when it comes to poetry. But I really hope it’s good!

I honestly loved having this to pick up in between chores and other reading. Some of the poems really needed to sink in a bit before I could read the next one – I loved that.
