It’s not like you rarely find any recommendations on a blog like mine, right? It’s a book blog after all, so recommendations galore! But.. I thought to highlight a couple of books. Really, truly highlight them and shove them in your faces like no tomorrow in hopes of you buying a copy and reading it. Or maybe reading that copy you’ve been having forever and is only gathering dust?
As always, covers link back to the Goodreads-page!

Recommend a book from one of your favorite genres
I’m going with a book I’ve been mentioning quite frequently recently because it’s a mix of everything I like in different genres. It’s fantasy – mermaids – but there’s a very present representation of mental health and the story is a puzzle that fits together so beautifully! Coral by Sara Ella surprised me in the best way possible when I first read it. I’m pretty sure it’ll become the book I recommend often.
I found myself doubting between two books. One by J.K. Rowling and then.. the one I’m going with – Team Phison by Chace Verity which is a short read, a queer one and one I really enjoyed when I read it not too long ago! Be aware that there are some triggers present in the book, so maybe check out my review if you feel like you need to know about those.
Recommend a book-to-screen adaption
I honestly couldn’t name one off the top of my head so I tortured myself a bit. Eventually I decided to go with The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare because I simply love those books and I love the series as well. Although I’m still no fan of the actress playing Clary for some reason? But all other actors? Yes plea-hease! And the books.. Well.. I love Cassandra Clare so what else is there to say really?
Recommend a book out of your comfort zone
This one was fairly easy for one reason and one reason alone: science fiction is not my comfort zone but I’m dipping my toe in it more often lately. That’s basically why I’m recommending Once & Future by Amy Rose Capetta and Cori McCarthy. I love retellings. I love queer books. This is a genderbent queer retelling of King Arthur. Need I say more?
Recommend a book series
It’s so easy to go the obvious route and mention Cassandra Clare or Sarah J. Maas – because I love their series. But.. I’m going for the other obvious route and mention The Illuminae Files by Jay Kristoff and Amy Kaufman. And maybe The Nevernight Chronicles by Jay Kristoff as well. I love those books. I’ll never not love those books. Even if I still have to read Darkdawn because my heart is simply not ready yet.
Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson. I mentioned it recently in another post as well, but this was the first book I thought of and I feel like I should stick with it! It’s a standalone, there’s a heartless demon, there’s libraries and books, there’s magic. There’s everything you need and more.
Recommend a book you don’t talk about enough
I try my best talking about books by small authors as often as I can so this is actually a hard one. I don’t want to “rave” about books that don’t really need the raving – if you know what I mean, so I went to take a look at my bookshelves and.. I feel like it may be time to mention The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli once again. I haven’t been seeing a lot about this book lately, but.. it was such an amazing read! So fluffy and pure and.. everything. I still have a lot of feelings even thinking about the story.
Recommend your ‘staple’ book
Uhm.. Do I have a staple book? Can someone tell me what it is because I don’t know? I honestly don’t? My recommendations always depend on what the other person is looking for so.. yeah.. help?
Recommend the book / books that got you into reading
I’m pretty sure that, before Harry Potter came around, I mostly read books by Roald Dahl so.. I think Matilda would be the way to go. Although it might’ve also been The BFG? Who knows?! I don’t!
Recommend 3+ bloggers who recommend great books
Marie @ Drizzle & Hurricane Books is definitely your girl if you want fluffy contemporary! Destiny @ Howling Libraries is the person to harrass if you’re in need of not only fantasy, but also horror books! Or game recommendations. She does that as well. Last but not least.. Kal @ Reader Voracious always recommends amazing and amazing-sounding books.
Ahhh thank you so much for thinking of me Kathy, you’re so sweet, this means so much! 😍 I’ve heard incredible things about Sorcery of Thorns, I hope to read this one soonish! 🙂

This was such a fun tag to read, Kathy! I’ve been eyeing Sorcery of Thorns on my TBR recently, and I think this is the tipping factor for me needing to pick it up. You have me so sold. And I’m forever recommending The Illuminate Files as well, so I totally agree. Thanks so much for the tag on this one, Kathy, and great post!! 🙂

Ooooh, thank you! 🥰💖 And as far as your staple book, I ALWAYS think of the Selkirk books (can’t remember the actual name right now and too sleepy/lazy to check, lmao) when I think of you! (I really need to read those!!)
