READ THE ARC, BOUGHT THE BOOK. ~ Top Ten Tuesday, April 7th

Top Ten Tuesday

If there’s one thing I pride myself in, it’s supporting the authors of which I read and loved an Advance Reader Copy. It’s easy [and true] to say that we’re already being rewarded for our work [aka reading and reviewing] by having the opportunity to read the books early, but.. Sometimes I feel like supporting their work in other ways is important to authors as well. Which is why I try buying finished copies of the ARC’s I really loved. Try being the keyword. I have a list of finished copies I have yet to buy since money isn’t allowing it right now but I will eventually!

TTT general

Anyway. What I’m trying to say with all that is.. I’m here to share the finished copies I bought after reading an eARC. [Or ones I have yet to buy but definitely will.] So this week’s topic is “Books I bought because..” and I’m making it.. “ARC’s I read and then decided supporting the author was definitely worth it!”.

All covers link back to Goodreads if you feel like checking them out.

The Beautiful (The Beautiful, #1)CoralFeather (Angels of Elysium, #1)Sorcery of ThornsOnce & Future (Once & Future #1)

The first four books are all fantasy, and I love them all dearly for different reasons. The Beautiful has amazing writing, where Coral is a perfect-fitting puzzle. Feather features angels, which is one of my eternal weaknesses when it comes to fantasy. Sorcery of Thorns? Libraries! And then there’s the fifth, a science fiction book I didn’t expect to cherish as much as I ended up doing. I read ARC’s of all these books. The only one I have yet to buy a finished copy of is Feather and I will. I definitely will.

Here’s a bit more about the books:

The Beautiful by Renée Ahdieh ~ YA Fantasy, slow-paced, gorgeous writing [review!]
Coral by Sara Ella ~ YA Fantasy, mental health, beautifully put together [review!]
Feather by Olivia Wildenstein ~ YA Fantasy, angels, very intriguing, broody character [review!]
Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson ~ YA Fantasy, books!, a demon that stole my heart [review!]
Once & Future by Amy Rose Capetta and Cori McCarthy ~ YA Sci-Fi, King Arthur-retelling, queer [review!]

100 Days of SunlightMy Whole TruthThe Sky is MineThis Heart of MineFoul Is Fair (Foul Is Fair #1)

These five are all contemporary novels and all important for different reasons, for different rep.

Here’s a bit more about the books:

100 Days of Sunlight by Abbie Emmons ~ YA Contemporary, temporary blindness, amputee [Review!]
My Whole Truth
by Mischa Thrace ~ YA Contemporary, queer rep, own-voices – rape [Review!]
The Sky is Mine by Amy Beashel ~  YA Contemporary, abuse, rape, queer rep [Review!]
This Heart of Mine by C.C. Hunter ~ YA Contemporary, importance of donating organs, sass [Review!]
Foul is Fair by Hannah Capin ~ YA Contemporary, brutal, revenge of rape survivor, a-ma-zing [Review!]

Are you “in” the ARC-game? What are ARC’s you bought finished copies of?
If you don’t read ARC’s – what’s a book you considered buying multiple copies of simply for the sake of supporting the author?
What’s a book you really want to buy a finished copy of? Or.. What book would you buy a second copy of if you don’t read ARC’s?

Feel free to leave a link to your TTT so I can check it out!

  1. I also try to buy finished copies of the books I really enjoyed reading ARCs for! I can’t afford to buy all of them, but I like supporting the authors financially whenever possible. Most recently, I’ve bough Foul is Fair, Ink in the Blood, All the Stars and Teeth.

    1. Foul is Fair is one I really want to buy. I keep a list of the “priority” FC’s I want and then another list with the “check if they’re on sale” ones so.. like.. still supporting but not ruining my bank account..

  2. I love that you buy finished books based on your love of the ARC. That’s awesome! I, alas, am not that awesome. If I love an ARC, I’ll just keep the ARC. Occasionally, I’ve loved an ARC so much that I wanted to give the book as a gift to someone – I do buy a finished book in that case. Otherwise, I pass ARCs I don’t love on to friends or put them in a Little Free Library near me.

    Happy TTT!

    1. Still, you promote the books and share them if you loved them so that’s still being awesome on your part! I don’t have any Little Free Library remotely close and, if there’s one, they are “children’s books only”, in Dutch, so.. yeah.

  3. Most of the time I don’t get the finished copy, but some books I definitely do. Most recently I’ve gotten Chain of Gold and The Kingdom of Back ARCs and I absolutely adored them. I have almost all of both author’s finished copies so of course I pre-ordered them both. I got Of Curses and Kisses and Sky Without Stars too. I want a copy of Enchantée too, but I’ll probably look for a good sale. I want to reread it before Liberté comes out.

    1. Ugh, I’m jealous of you being able to get unicorn-arcs like that, haha. The only ARC’s I have are ones my “local” English bookstore doesn’t want to keep so I get to take some home. [Less to throw in the trash, they said..]
Waiting for sales is a good one! I have a list with books I want finished copies of, but am waiting for some sales as well.

  5. Excellent topic since I still have a question for you about that! 😆 Can you tell me when you are allowed to review the ARC? I mean, do I have to wait until the book is released to put the review on my blog or Goodreads or something?

Since I’m new in the Netgalley game, I don’t know yet how I’m gonna deal with that. When I still worked at a book store I used to get arcs for my department from the sales reps. I had the copies, I never felt like I needed to buy an actual copy since I made them money by reading and then recommending them. Getting the arc and reviewing it on all your channels is the work you do in exchange for that book, isn’t it?

    1. Haha! No problem! I usually post it on Goodreads immediately, but only post my review on the day of its release, or the day prior or afterwards (depending on what posts I already have scheduled that I rather not move around). Publishers prefer it as close to its release day as possible.

That’s definitely true! But sometimes I just feel like extra support is totally valid when I loved a story THAT much. You don’t have to feel obligated to do as I do, at all. It’s ones own choice. Not everyone has the funds to do so anyway.

    2. Since I won’t get approved for any books that fast yet, I don’t have to worry about that just yet. 😅 But I can totally see myself buying some of them as a paperback, especially if I loved them (or if they are super pretty.)
      Thanks for the info! ❤

    3. Oh, I don’t know! I just realized there’s a netgalley.de so.. maybe you should check out that one?! Might get you approved way faster than you’re anticipating right now. 😉
haha, cover buying is the bane of my existence [and money] at times. 😛 You’re welcome! Feel free to DM me anywhere if you have more questions. 😀

    4. Nah, I don’t really read German written books anymore. There is also a distinct lack of great Middlegrade books. That’s why I took UK and not Germany. 😬 But thanks! I will continue with the read now books and review those and try later. 🙂

    5. Yeah idk if there’s English books on there. Could be, I think? No clue! 😛 You could always just give it a shot now too. You’ll notice soon enough what publishers need you to have reviewed more / have a bigger reach and which ones are more eager to approve earlier. 🙂

    1. Oh gosh! I don’t even know how I did. It was though edelweiss! I have the 1st signed edition that I pre-ordered and that’s it. I was SO excited and had HUGE expectations for it. I didn’t like it as much as I wished. 😦

    2. Edelweiss and I are NOT friends. I never get approved for anything? Doesn’t matter what I do or what guides / blogposts I use to try and get approved and.. now I just don’t try anymore, haha.
Seriously?! I have yet to read it so.. uhm. Let’s hope I love it?!

    3. I haven’t been approved for a while… same with Netgalley. I might be on a list. Haha. It’s okay, I don’t need a huge ARC pile right now… I guess 🙃

I really hope you love it!!
