NEW APPROVALS ~ Sharing some NetGalley-wins!

Spotlight

I’ve been thinking about doing this for a while, and with my recent two NetGalley-approvals, I decided it was time to actually kick this off! Every once in a while, when I get new eARC’s to read, I’ll be sharing them post-release so you can find out about them as well! That way you’ll also be updated on what reviews you can expect – apart from my own books I’m reading in between, that is. Do let me know if you like this concept!

Before I start, I just want to say I hope you’re all doing okay. If you need someone to rant to, vent to, talk to.. You can find me on here, on Twitter, on Instagram – wherever. It’s a time to be there for one another, support one another and.. generally help wherever we can. Know I’m here.

That being said, let’s dive into my newest acquisitions!

As always, covers link back to the Goodreads-page, so feel free to check them out!

The Knockout

TITLE: The Knockout
AUTHOR: S.A. Patel

RELEASED: August 8, 2020
PUBLISHER: Flux

GENRE: YA Contemporary

TRIGGERS: ?
REPS: Indian own-voices!

SYNOPSIS
If seventeen-year-old Kareena Thakkar is going to alienate herself from the entire Indian community, she might as well do it gloriously. She’s landed the chance of a lifetime, an invitation to the US Muay Thai Open, which could lead to a spot on the first-ever Olympic team. If only her sport wasn’t seen as something too rough for girls, something she’s afraid to share with anyone outside of her family. Despite pleasing her parents, exceling at school, and making plans to get her family out of debt, Kareena’s never felt quite Indian enough, and her training is only making it worse.

Which is inconvenient, since she’s starting to fall for Amit Patel, who just might be the world’s most perfect Indian. Admitting her feelings for Amit will cost Kareena more than just her pride–she’ll have to face his parents’ disapproval, battle her own insecurities, and remain focused for the big fight. Kareena’s bid for the Olympics could very well make history–if she has the courage to go for it.

I requested both these books because they.. simply sound amazing? Especially Surrender Your Sons has me very, very intrigued. I think the author mentioned on his site how it’s “Lost but very, very queer” and I was.. lost? [Excuse my horrible pun..] Anyway! I also adore own-voices books so there’s that.

Below you can find an overview of all the ARC’s I have currently left to read and review! You’ll also see this section in my [hopefully] weekly WWW Wednesday-posts so you can always stay on top of which reviews to expect! Although some are read and reviewed sooner and only posted on their release date.

  1. I’m just thankful for fandoms and the internet to allow myself an escape in these crazy times….I’ve also been cleaning like a mad woman since I’ve been laid off work for the time being. Honestly both of these sound really interesting and I’m definitely intrigued to get my hands on both of them. I think this post is a really good idea!

    1. Ha, same! We need all the distractions we can get right now! At least your home will be spotless, haha! We’ve cleaned out our garage this weekend so we’re trying to get some stuff done over here as well. At least there’ll be some good done after all this is over, huh.
Right? Hope you get to read them! Thank you!

  2. I still don’t really know what Netgalley is. Or what the requirements are. What do you have to do to apply there? 🤔

Surrender your sons sounds great but it really reminds me of Morton Rhue’s Bootcamp. That one I loved. Have you read it?

Also, how are you doing? How is your mom coping? I hope you’re doing okay. ❤

    1. Ooh, you can simply sign up to it! There are different ‘sites’, according to where you live. I live in Belgium so I use the uk-one, but if you’re in the us, .com is the way to go. You’ll see once you sign up, I think! Just make sure your profile is up to date with all your stats / following and such. 🙂

I haven’t even heard of that one but I’m going to check it out now! They do sound eerily alike, I have to admit. Although Morton Rhue’s Bootcamp sounds a bit heavier on the abuse-front.

I’m okayish! I’m trying to get over my hermit-tendencies. [I had a couple of days where I kept running away from my OH, mom and Jamie due to wanting to be all on my own, but it seems to be a bit better now. :)] My mom is still stressing out over having to work in an elderly home and her boss having sent a mail saying there are some elderly who they think have covid, but.. yeah. We’ll see. 🙂

      How are you?

    2. Maybe I’ll try. I’m in Austria actually but I prefer English books, so I think UK might just be the one for me too. Although my follower count is rather small, so I don’t know if I will get approved for any books. Do you mind if I ask you for advice if I don’t know what to do?

Good to know that you are coping. It’s still stressful around here, mainly at work. There is just too much to do and it’s hard not to completely freak out because it just doesn’t end. As soon as I get one thing done, two more come through. But then again, I am somewhat grateful that I still have a job. Others are not that lucky.

    3. Same. I rarely read Dutch books anymore. They don’t read as fluently? It’s weird, haha. Eh, not all publishers look at the follower count. Plus there are also ALWAYS books on “read now”, so you can simply download those and start reading too. That’s what most of the “newbies” on Netgalley do anyway so their rating [books downloaded / approved for versus read] goes up.
Sure! Feel free to shoot me a message! With everything going on and the little one being at home non-stop, it might take me a while to get back to you but I’ll do my best. 🙂

Ugh, I can imagine. It’s a good thing to still be working and still have a job, but it’s another thing entirely to be able to cope with the pressure it adds. And there’s a LOT of that going around nowadays.. Take care of yourself!

    1. Glad to hear you’re all good! Your poor mom though, I’m sure she’s more worried about those in the home than herself, but both are scary.

    2. She’s definitely worried about them, but more so about picking it up herself and bringing it home to us – especially with us not knowing if Jamie’s immunity system is as it should be. We’ll be okay! She’s taking every possible precaution during work and I keep reminding her she can’t do more than that. 🙂
