[blogtober] LIFE UPDATE, and reading update – WWW: October 9th

WWW Wednesday

I’m.. well.. I don’t know.. I was stoked to get on top of my blog again and then life threw all kinds of shit [excuse my language] in my family’s direction. My sister-in-law’s stepfather died, then Jamie got otitis – both ears no less – and ended up having to be hospitalized. I’m going to keep it as brief as possible but:
Friday, September 27 – Fever, visit at the doctor’s, double otitis
Monday, September 30 – Still fever, double otitis, rough nights had
Tuesday, October 1 – Visit to the hospital to let a paediatrician take a look at Jamie
Tuesday, October 1, evening – Blood shows he has an infection, lumbar puncture
Later that evening – Results show Jamie has meningitis
Since that moment – antibiotics, more blood taken and tested
Saturday, October 5 – We noticed he barely uses his right arm and is in pain
Monday, October 7 – Moving hospitals to one where they can do more research, another lumbar puncture
Tuesday, October 8 – Placing a cathether and taking fluid from his right arm

Right now, we’re still at the hospital awaiting results. The meningitis is gone, but we still don’t know what’s causing the issue with his arm and his fever. His fever has been constantly present ever since September 27. It feels like we’re out of the woods but on the other hand.. As long as they don’t know what’s bothering him right now, it could be anything.. Any candles lit, prayers said are more than welcome since this is a very, very exhausting time for us…

Anyway! I do have to take care of myself and I’m doing just that by reading and blog prep, which is why I did read a fair bit compared to the previous months. Let’s take a look!

As always, covers link back to the Goodreads-page, so feel free to check them out!

Current read

The Beautiful (The Beautiful, #1)LIFEL1K3 (Lifelike, #1)

I’ve started both The Beautiful and Lifel1k3 recently! I’m not far in either of them, but that’s mostly due to my finishing some other books first. I meant to pick up Darkdawn, but decided against it. With everything going on, I’m pretty sure I can’t handle the emotional damage Jay is going to cause with that book. I couldn’t resist picking up one of his others though, haha!
As for The Beautiful.. I’m loving the atmosphere of that one so far. Really curious to see where it’ll take me.

Finished reading

Wilder GirlsTellus (Thanatos Trilogy #2)Truth or Dance (Truth or Dance #1)Break a Leg (Truth or Dance #2)

I finished four books – FOUR! And I’m darn proud of it too. Wilder Girls was on my currently reading for six weeks or something. Glad to have gotten through that one. I don’t know yet when my review will be up, but there definitely will be one! Absolutely loved Tellus, which is the second book of a series – one I highly recommend, might I add!
Apart from those two, I decided to give Dutch books another shot, which is why I read Truth or Dance and Break a Leg. Guess it’s safe to say reading in Dutch was a success since I read those back to back, haha.

Reading next

I have no clue. I took some books to the hospital with me, but Call It What You Want was a wrong pick since the first two chapters mention suicide and abortion. Things I cannot handle right now. Apart from that I took Sadie with me, also not the smartest move.. And two Dutch books. We’ll see!

  1. Oh no! That doesn’t sound good at all. 😳 I hope he will get better soon. Don’t forget to take care of yourself as well and take a little time to relax, even if it’s hard when you have to worry all the time. ❤
I have to admit I don’t know any of the books you have here, besides Wilder Girls and Lifelike, but I haven’t read them either. 🙈

    1. It was definitely very bad at first, close to life-threathening last week but our little boy pulled through. 🙂 We’re definitely taking care of ourselves! My mom is doing some “nightshifts” every two days so we can get some much-needed rest in our own bed. That’s helping tons.

Haha! That’s okay! At least it’s a way to get to know more books? 😛

  2. Hope Jamie will feel better soon and you by extension! There is nothing worse than having a sick child. You feel so powerless as a parent… 😥

  3. I’ve been thinking about you and your family constantly since I saw your Instagram post. Really hoping you all get some well deserved good news soon about your little man! ❤

    1. We’re hoping the same! It’s been absolute hell, but he seems to be feeling better today. Been playing and trying to stand up. It’s been over two weeks since he did those things like he’s doing them now. 🙂 ❤

    1. That sucks, but at least he’s being cared for and they’re doing their best to figure out what’s going on. Hoping the MRI can give you some answers.

  4. Fingers crossed Jamie will be ok asap! Yeah, I don’t think any of you upcoming choices might have been the best ones, but looking at your ARC list there are some cute and potentially less heavy option there. But then again it’s all about the reading mood isn’t it. Good luck with it anyway 🙂
