JANUARY [Jam Jar] TBR + Late-a-thon

January

It’s time.. Time for the last TBR-post of 2018. My TBR for the first challenge of 2019 – January Jam Jar. It’s no secret I’m more of a mood reader, although I can stick to my TBR’s somewhat.. most of the time but.. The jar has always been a huge challenge for me. Especially since I tend to ignore the thing after a week or two. Let’s hope I do better this time around!

As the challenge asks, I put a whole lot of my priority reads [the ones I’ve been looking forward to so much!] in a jar, dividing sequels from contemporary, fantasy and graphic novels. Sure, some of these I only got recently but.. who cares! I’m in the mood to read them, so in the jar they go! Let’s see what books ended up making the jar!

BOOKS I’M PUTTING IN MY JAR!

#1 The Sequels

Archenemies (Renegades, #2)Consort of Pain (The Witch's Consorts #3)Kingdom of the Blazing Phoenix (Rise of the Empress #2)
The Lady's Guide to Petticoats and Piracy (Montague Siblings, #2)Escaping from Houdini (Stalking Jack the Ripper, #3)Godsgrave (The Nevernight Chronicle, #2)Smoke in the Sun (Flame in the Mist, #2)

#2 Contemporary

To All the Boys I've Loved Before (To All the Boys I've Loved Before, #1)The Poet XMy Favorite Half-Night StandTo Be HonestSadie
Our Chemical HeartsThe Memory BookAre We All Lemmings and Snowflakes?Goodbye, PerfectThe Miseducation of Cameron Post

#3 Fantasy

City of Ghosts (Cassidy Blake, #1)Grace and FuryThe Last Namsara (Iskari, #1)The Language of Thorns: Midnight Tales and Dangerous MagicAlice in Zombieland (White Rabbit Chronicles, #1)
Wild BeautyFantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald - The Original ScreenplayDaughter of the Burning CityWicked Like a Wildfire (Hibiscus Daughter, #1)The Library of Fates

#4 Graphic novels

Sweet Blue Flowers, Vol. 1 (Sweet Blue Flowers Omnibus, #1)Whispered Words, Volume 1The Prince and the Dressmaker

As I have an enormous physical TBR and I got a whole load of new books this month, I decided to mix things up. A lot of these are ‘older’ releases, but are still books I only purchased recently. I’ve been looking forward to reading them for a long time though, which is why I’m adding them to the jar. To give my mood-reading tendencies a bit of a breather, I also used different colors for my sequels, fantasy novels, contemporaries and graphic novels. That way I at least have some say in what I’m about to read? I’m hoping it’ll help me stick to the jar throughout the entire month this time!

I already pulled two books out of my jar, so the reads I’ll be starting 2019 with are To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and Godsgrave! Do I even have to say how happy I am with pulling both of these? I’ve been wanting to read Jenny Han’s book since watching the movie and Godsgrave since reading and loving Nevernight.

Together with January Jam Jar, I’m going to participate some-what in a different read-a-thon as well. Late-a-thon, hosted by Destiny @ Howling Libraries! This one is actually specified to be for overdue ARC’s / review copies but since I’m this rare unicorn, I only have.. one overdue review copy right now? I’ve had it since July so.. yeah. I should definitely read it. Putting only one book as the goal for this one is pretty much telling myself to “succeed or give up already”. Let’s hope it’s the first one!

Imber (Thanatos Trilogy #1)A Pack of Blood and LiesAll the Lonely PeopleLovestruckAnd We Call It Love

At the start of December, this section consisted of 9 ARC’s. I got it down to 5!

Are you joining in on any of these two challenges? Or both?
What books are you definitely reading during January?
Is there a specific theme you’re focusing on?

I hope you all have a wonderful time today – being the last day of 2018 and all. Let’s end the year with a bang and start it with an even bigger one!

  1. You have some really good books in your jar!! The Last Namsara, Smoke in the Sun, Goodbye Perfect (technically “releasing” this month!). I kinda want to participate… but we’re already running a blog event because we had so many books to review this month. Hmm. Maybe read and posts the reviews later? I will need to think on this. I think Short-a-Thon wiped me out a bit, so I’m putting reading on pause for at least a week. The downside of being a binge reader– in my case, I like breaks in between! Prepare myself for another emotional ride haha.

    1. Ugh, I’m looking forward to all of those sooo much, haha! Let’s hope I pull AT LEAST The Last Namsara this month because.. dragons..
Heh, I feel you. I didn’t really read as much as I thought I would during the Short-a-thon but I can definitely understand taking a break from reading once in a while. The brain [and heart] needs time to heal after reading certain types of books!
I’d say.. mini-reviews? But.. You don’t exactly succeed at keeping those MINI, hahaha!

    1. Saaaame! I’ve been busy replying to comments the whole time so I still haven’t prepped any posts. I was way behind, haha. Now I actually should catch up on reading blog posts of blogs I follow but.. It’s still a toss-up between doing that or start prepping posts.. Lunch first! 😛

    2. I got behind on everything because I was setting up my bullet journal. It took me 4 days to finish that. I tried to do a little bit of everything else everyday but the journal took over. I’m pretty much caught up on everything now except for my blog posts. I have all of my challenge posts to do as well as a TBR and the book releases I’m looking forward to.

    3. Haha, but we both knew you’d do that once your bullet journal arrived. Sacrifices have to be made sometimes. 😀 And you’ll get on track soon enough!
I’ve prepped some posts now, but I just found out I was meant to schedule a review for next Monday of.. an ARC I haven’t even read yet.. Yikes!

    4. Yeah I knew I would especially since it showed up late. I’m just glad that’s behind me and I can focus on all the blog posts and actually reading something. I finally started reading my janjamjar pick last night.

    1. Right?! I can’t even believe my luck with my first two pulls! Like.. GODSGRAVE. AND. All the Boys I’ve Loved Before!
Even the BF told me people would think I cheated even though he pulled one of them and I pulled the other one while he was watching me, haha.
[Also, let’s just see me failing at the Late-a-thon even though I only have one book on that TBR. I just know.. I’m going to fail..]

    1. I did the one big pile-thing last year and.. I ended up regretting it? I’m hoping it’ll work better this way but we’ll see, haha.
Thanks! I already feel as if I’m going to fail on that one ARC so.. let’s hope I’m wrong.

  2. My theme for picking books to read is pretty much whatever review copies are coming out that month. But I love the jam jar idea, and I have so many unread personal books, one of these days I’m going to try it😊

    1. Oh, I hope you do! I couldn’t do it for a long period of time, but once in a while it’s fun to let the jar decide my next read instead of staring at lists and books to try and make up my mind, haha.
