TALKING BOOK SERIES ~ Anticipated 2019 sequels and series I want to start!

Discussion

Today is the day I’ve been anticipating for months. I worked half a day yesterday and then.. my holiday kicked off! A much-needed one that will last until January and I’m so, so ready for it. Not to mention all the books I’ll be reading since today is also the official start of the Short-a-thonAre you joining?!

But that’s not the only thing I’m ready for. I’m also ready to start some series, to continue other series and thus.. to share my most anticipated sequels / series to read in 2019! Which is, of course, what today is all about on my blog.

Let’s talk most anticipated 2019 sequels first. There are quite a bunch of those – and I just know I’ve overlooked some as well so.. I’ll be adding to the list throughout the entire year? Probably? As usual. We all know we can never stop adding to our TBR’s anyway.

Rage (Stormheart, #2)Finale (Caraval, #3)A Girl Called Shameless (Untitled, #2)The Wicked King (The Folk of the Air, #2)Children of Virtue and Vengeance (Legacy of Orïsha, #2)

I’ve been waiting so long for Rage. Its release was postponed by.. a year, I think? I read and reviewed Roar back in 2017 when it came in my FairyLoot box so.. It’s definitely been a while. I still know I liked it and loved the whole concept of the world Cora Carmack created so I cannot wait to continue reading!

Stephanie Garber’s Finale has to be on this list as well. I liked Caraval, but Legendary definitely made more of an impact on me. I can only keep my fingers crossed the third and final installment will be even more amazing. I’m so curious to see who’s POV this one will be from…

Ever since reading Laura Steven’s The Exact Opposite of Okay, I’ve been keeping an eye on any new releases and.. it’s happening! A Girl Called Shameless was added to my TBR pretty much the moment I found out about it. I haven’t pre-ordered it yet but.. I just might.

I don’t think I need to explain The Wicked King, right? You all know how much I loved The Cruel Prince, so it only makes sense I’m eagerly anticipating this one. I cannot wait to dive in and am fairly certain this will be one sequel I will actually read the moment it arrives – instead of letting it sit on my shelves for months on end..

Last, but definitely not least, is Children of Virtue and Vengeance. I know there’s been some commotion regarding Tomi Adeyemi and the accusation towards Nora Roberts – I’m not going into that right now – but I simply won’t let that affect the way I need the sequel of Children of Blood and Bone. I loved that book too much, okay.

But that’s not all! There are series I actually own already and still haven’t even started reading. I should change that; I know I should. Especially since I know so many of you love some of these books to bits and.. I kind of feel guilty for not having read them? Which is the most stupid thing ever but I can’t help it! I can only keep my fingers crossed I’ll at least make a start on these in 2019.

Wicked Lovely (Wicked Lovely, #1)A Darker Shade of Magic (Shades of Magic, #1)Shadow and Bone (Grisha Verse, #1)
To All the Boys I've Loved Before (To All the Boys I've Loved Before, #1)Shatter Me (Shatter Me, #1)Scythe (Arc of a Scythe #1)

Of course, there are series I already started and have yet to continue.. You honestly don’t even want to know how many unread sequels are actually on my shelves. [Or should I say, packed in boxes?] But we’ll keep that shameful post for another day, hah.

What sequels are you looking forward to most? Any I missed?
How quickly to you read sequels once they’re released and you own a copy?
Are there series you really want to start but still haven’t?
Which series should every contemporary and/or fantasy lover definitely read?

  1. I got Caraval for Christmas! So now if I keep myself on track I should be able to celebrate the Finale hype with everyone else. I haven’t even touched any of these other series, so I’m just going to retreat and be glad I caught one hype train today.

    1. That’s awesome! I hope you enjoy it! Legendary is better than Caraval though, in my humble opinion, haha.
Eh; hype trains are.. just that. trains. I pretty much ignore the hype even when I’m pretty stoked about a certain book / series myself? Idk why. :’)

    2. I agree about the hype train thing. I generally avoid. But in my last year of blogging, I’ve seen so many book bloggers join together on Twitter and WordPress to generally just squeal in anticipation for hyped sequel releases, and make fan theories and I felt a little left out. Like, I didn’t actively want to read those books, but I wanted to join the excitement? So I want to try experiencing for once!

  2. I’m excited about Children of Virtue and Vengeance as well! Some of my series I haven’t started yet are The Darker Shade of Magic series, the Six of Crows duology, and the Court of Thorns and Roses series.

  3. I remember compiling my list of series I wanted to read this year and I’m 99% sure I didn’t get through hardly any of them haha. Tackling series is one of my main goals for 2019 though so hopefully I’ll do better and we’ll both smash our series goals ;D

  4. Ahhh Kathy, may 2019 be the year you’ll read ADSOM, To All The Boys and Shatter Me, I’d love to hear your thoughts on these ones I really liked them all so much 🙂
I’m also impatient to see what will happen in the sequel to COBAB! 🙂

  5. I honestly think you are the first person (other than myself) that has mentioned Children of Virtue and Vengeance as an anticipated release! I was hoping that it wasn’t because of the controversy with Nora Roberts but I am getting a bit nervous now. I guess we’ll see when it actually comes out how many people talk about it.

    1. I’m anticipating Children of Virtue and Vengeance as well. Yes, the whole Nora Roberts thing was ridiculous, but I’m hoping that since Nora reached out and she and Tomi talked about things, that we can just all move past the issue. I honestly want to believe that Tomi’s comments were because she is a new author still, and is still getting used to how the publishing industry works.

    2. We can hope that, for sure, but I feel like Tomi could’ve handled things entirely different – even after Nora reached out. Oh well; it is the way it is. I’m not going to let the whole thing get in the way of my enjoying their work. 🙂

    3. I honestly think that whole ordeal has a lot to do with it but I’m so not letting it stop me from enjoying books? I definitely am less interested in Tomi’s posts / insta-stories and such, but I’m not going to take it out on a book I know I’ll love. :’)
