TTT: LOWEST RATED books on my owned TBR

Top Ten Tuesday

First things first: From now on, I’ll be adding the current and upcoming reading challenges / read-a-thons to my sidebar! I’ll be using the banners for this, so if you want to go through the post, simply click the banner and it’ll take you there. I think this’ll be a bit more convenient than pinning them to my homepage?

As for today’s post, I’m back to doing my own thing with this TTT – yay! Honestly, I simply didn’t feel the topic again so I decided to figure out something else.. and.. what’s better than having to look through your owned TBR and confront yourself – once more – with all the books you should’ve read a long time ago?

TTT general

Today’s topic is “Platonic Relationships in Books” and I’m, as said, I’m turning it into “Lowest Rated Books On My Owned TBR”. Maybe I’ll even consider throwing some of them off? Who am I kidding..

Jenna & Jonah's FauxmanceThe Particular Sadness of Lemon CakeBeasts Made of Night (Beasts Made of Night, #1)Reign of the Fallen (Reign of the Fallen, #1)The Island
The Last Hope (Oksa Pollock, #1)The Valentine's CardThe Hawkweed ProphecyPoison HeartGlitter (Glitter, #1)

All covers link back to Goodreads if you feel like checking them out!

I’m actually kind of bummed to see some of these titles on here? All ratings range between 3.15 and 3.54, which.. overall isn’t all that bad but it does give me a meh-vibe. I was looking forward to reading Reign of the Fallen – even though it was such a cover-buy – and The Particular Sadness of Lemon CakeThe Last Hope (Oksa Pollock) is over 500 pages so.. now I’m a bit weary of picking that one up, haha.
I do know I’ll be reading Jenna & Jonah’s Fauxmance next month though – it’s the lowest rated book on my TBR but also one of the shortest ones and with the Short-a-thon coming up..

What are the lowest rated books on your TBR?
Does it make you consider to unhaul some of them or not?
Do you often decide whether or not to buy a book based on Goodreads-ratings, even if the blurb really speaks to you?

Feel free to leave a link to your TTT so I can check it out!

    1. Hah, I know about Destiny’s meme! I simply don’t feel like confronting myself like that just yet, haha.
That could definitely work! I might just do that on my own, without adding a meme in the mix, and just try and clear some of my “want to read” that way. 🙂

  1. I like your topic pick this week! It’s always interesting to go and see what books you have on your TBR are rated. Well, I hope you enjoy them and are able to boost their score a little upon reading! (Also… catch me adding some of these to my own TBR because intrigued and also a little nervous!)

    1. Thank you!
Haha, exactly. Sometimes it does frighten me a bit though. I didn’t expect Reign of the Fallen to have such a meh rating? Hopefully I’ll love it more than the average reader did. 🙂
[Haha, TTT-posts are always horrible for my TBR as well! :D]

  2. Out of all the books you listed I’ve only heard of Reign of the Fallen. I usually don’t pay too much attention to the rating on Goodreads I mostly focus on the synopsis of the book and then I might read/skim through a few reviews but mostly I go by if I think the synopsis sounds intriguing to me or not.

    1. I tend to read a few 5 star reviews and then a few low star reviews and some with like 3 stars. I feel like that gives me a good feel for the book. If someone is very passionate for their love of the book it makes me want to read but the same can be said if someone if very passionate about their dislike of a book for some reason those make me want to read the book as well.

  3. I know sometimes Goodreads ratings can be deceiving, but it is sad to see some of these rated so low. I haven’t read any of them, but I am interested in Reign of the Fallen:-)

    1. Right? It hurts just that little bit more when you already own a copy and you start wondering whether it was a smart thing to do or not. I really hope Reign of the Fallen ends up surprising me in the best way. 🙂

    1. True!
I recently read S.T.A.G.S so I’m definitely curious to see what The Island will be like.
Uh-ow. When it comes to Glitter, I have to admit I was totally tempted because of the cover – which is the main reason I bought the thing in the first place. I rarely do cover-buys but once in a while..

    2. The Island plays around with privilege in a similar way to STAGS 🙂
I picked up Glitter purely because of the cover haha, I am so guilty of that. Glitter is a fun read but… Morally questionable?

    3. Hm.. Okay. I’ll find out eventually. I did like the whole concept of the “elite” not having technology since it’s so.. upside down to what we know.
Well.. As long as it’s a fun read, that makes up for some of it, right? We’ll see when I get to it, I guess.

  4. I’ve never heard of most of these, but I heard great things about Reign of the Fallen! I guess Goodreads ratings aren’t always accurate? It depends on the number of ratings as well, but also there are people who rate books with queer characters/POC/etc low out of spite, etc. And honestly with a lot of ratings I don’t think 3.5 or something is really bad. So don’t get too discouraged!

    1. I’ve heard mixed things about that one but.. honestly.. I just want the content to be as amazing as the cover, haha.
Ugh, so true. I hate when people do that since it’s just.. so low of them. Not to mention people rating books before they’re even published? Why?!

  5. This actually made me so curious to go see what my lowest-rated TBR book is – it has a 3.5-star average rating, which I guess isn’t bad? But like Marie, for some reason, I get a bit nervous when books have less than a 4-star average.

Here’s my TTT if you want to check it out!

  6. My lowest rated book (other than some 2020 releases that have no ratings yet) is Tulip Mania. I actually don’t pay too much attention to ratings. The synopsis and what my friends say about books would have more interest for me.

    1. Reminds me I actually hate how people sometimes rate books they couldn’t have possible read? Ugh.
That’s definitely a good way to handle things though! I wish I could be like that more sometimes.

  7. I really liked Reign of the Fallen but there was some bits in there that made others rate it lower. I think you could still really enjoy that though! I had my eye on the Hawkseed Prophecy as well but heard some mixed things after a while. I might pick it up from the library at some point…

    1. I totally fell for the cover when it comes to Reign of the Fallen, haha. I cannot for the life of me resist skulls in any way. :’)
I think I bought Hawkseed Prophecy at the Boekenfestijn a year or two ago? Quickly disappeared among other books though..

  8. Ohh goodreads ratings influence me, even if I try not to let them do so haha. Whenever I see a book rated lower than 4, I can’t help but feel a little nervous about it all, even if it’s… silly? I mean, 3 isn’t that bad of a rating overall, is it? haha.

    1. I struggle with the exact same thing! I automatically get this “meh” feeling regarding the book, while it doesn’t necessarily have to be that way? But I’m always less eager to pick it up.. Which is stupid, haha. We should trust our gut feeling once in a while!
