Hi Munchworms!
This week’s topic for That Artsy Reader Girl‘s Top Ten Tuesday is:
“Books That Surprised Me”!
I honestly had to think on this one quite a bit and I didn’t make it to ten books. However, I do have a bunch that surprised me in a good way and and three that surprised me in a bad way so let’s dive into it!
I’m happy you found 180 Seconds a great surprise!

The Shining by Stephen King was excellent, as most of his books are!

Daughter of The Pirate King was so much fun! Shame you didn’t like Because You Love To Hate Me though, I hope I enjoy it more, I do love a good villain!

I have main genres but I love changing from time to time and avoid boredom 😉

To me it’s not necessarily to avoid boredom, but more to freshen / spice things up a bit. 😛

180 seconds really was a fun surprise…. I didn’t expect to cry this hard about it hahaha. I want to re-read it now, thank you 😛

Right?! I thought it’d be this light, fluffy read and ended up ugly-crying in a way I had NEVER done over a book. [Pretty sure the boyfriend is still traumatized about that one.]
Haha, you’re welcome! I’m hoping to reread it as well later on in the year. 😀

I thought it would be all fluff and fun, too. HOW WRONG WERE WE 😂😂

SO RIDICULOUSLY WRONG. But I loved it. 😂😂 Like, it’s the best way to be surprised by a book!

There were some good stories in there, but overall it was just.. meh. Not to mention the booktubers-additions. I didn’t see the point of those AT ALL.

Normally I’m to a huge fan of Stephen King’s writing style, but I really enjoyed The Shining! It’s such a creepy novel…

I’m glad Illuminae was a fun surprise! It’s such a good book. I’m eagerly awaiting my copy of Obsidio, which should arrive this week.

I just had a major rant because my copy will only arrive March 23rd and I pre-ordered it months ago.. I don’t even get why.. What’s the point of pre-ordering.. :’)

Because You Love to Hate Me was bad for me too. I didn’t have super high expectations but with the authors in it I had expected a bit more than what we got.

Yup, same here. My expectations were honestly already kind of low since I read some meh-reviews on it and it still ended up disappointing me. A shame, really.

Illuminae was definitely a fun surprise for me, and Gemina too (loved that one!!)
Because You Love To Hate Me looked kinda good, but you know anthologies can be hit or miss, and I never got to it… looks like maybe that was a good thing lol.

I loved Illuminae more than Gemina, to be honest. But that might simply be because I missed AIDAN, ha.
I’ve barely read any anthologies to be honest. The first one was Because You Love To Hate Me and I think it put me off anthologies a bit?
